MagRoc is a magnesium based sheathing with a fibreglass mesh reinforcing at the front and back surface of varying specification and quantity. The product offers substantial structural qualities in all axis. When laminated to a solid core it becomes a Stress Skin Panel or (Structurally Insulated Panel) SIP. The minimum thickness to create a stress skin panel is 110mm (4 1/2”). The panels also act as sheer walls allowing for long and tall walls.

Green and sustainable

MagRoc™ Structural Insulate Panels are a GREENER way to build. Not only are the materials used in the manufacture of the panels recyclable and more environmentally friendly than most building materials, the structures they create are far more energy efficient, durable and sustainable than with standard construction. The total calculated savings equation will offset the energy used in manufacturing within a few short years. Ongoing benefits are then reaped exponentially over the long sustainable life of the building.

MagRoc™ products are environmentally friendly  They are naturally occurring mineral based and free from toxins such as asbestos or formaldehyde and require no additive chemical treatment against rot. Magnesium oxide (MgO) is the primary ingredient and it is the second most abundant mineral compound found on earth, making up 35% of the earth's crust.

MagRoc™ is manufactured at ambient temperatures and cures through a naturally occurring exothermic reaction of the combined ingredients. No additional energy input is required as in the case of Gypsum products where 67% of the embodied energy is added at the end to dry and cure the gypsum boards. Studies have shown MgO based boards actually absorb Carbon Dioxide into the board structure while curing and this helps strengthen its intrinsic bond.

MagRoc ™ is mould and fungus resistant, does not off-gas and contains no toxic ingredients. This makes it perfect for those whom suffer from allergies, asthma and other chemical and indoor environmental sensitivities. Many plaster boards have been found to off-gass and harbour various contaminants and cultures in the vulnerable paper facings.

MagRoc™ is created by a pouring process, of a well mixed non toxic mineral slurry, that naturally air cures to form a hard homogenous finished board.

MagRoc™ sheathing is combined in a stress skin style sandwich panel with an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam core to create our SIPS system. EPS is a lightweight foam insulation composed of 98% air. Over the lifetime of a structure the EPS used in our panels will save will many times the energy embodied in it. It takes 24% less energy to produce EPS than fibregalss insulation of equivalent R value. Scrap EPS generated during the manufacturing and onsite building process can be recycled into new products.The process used to manufacture EPS uses no CFCs or other chemicals that are harmful to the environment.

MagRoc™SIPS do not deteriorate when saturated.

MagRoc™ is highly water resistant. It will only absorb a tested maximum of 21% moisture by weight under fully submerged total saturation. It also quickly releases this moisture, as the products natural mineral characteristics allow it to readily"breathe" it back out. Even with repeated wet/dry applications and 50 cycles of freeze/thaw testing there is no product performance breakdown and no deterioration.

Fire Safety

Fire codes are changing internationally.  MagRoc™ already has it covered. Under the building codes in Canada, the USA and Australasia, products that have been tested in an accredited 3rd party lab for fire and structural properties. 

Designed with factory pre-cut electrical chases

MagRoc™ SIPS  panels are designed with factory pre-cut electrical chases running vertically in the EPS foam core @ 16" (300mm) on centre. This allows for installations at intervals similar to convention construction layouts. 

MagRoc is mold resistant

Black mold is destructive and unhealthy. MagRoc™ is highly mold and fungus resistant. It is a proprietary non-nutrient design mix and there is nothing in the finished product that will encourage or support mould, fungal or bacteria growth.
